Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has recently urged Nigerians especially women to start small-scale food businesses such as selling akara (bean cake), roasting corn, and producing kuli-kuli as practical ways to earn a living amid the country’s economic challenges.

Speaking during the Renewed Hope Initiative engagement with the wives of 36 state governors in Abuja, Tinubu said these ventures require little start-up capital and can provide sustainable income when supported by grants rather than loans. She stressed that her office has deliberately provided grants to petty traders and vulnerable groups to avoid the burden of repayment, aiming to give hope and promote self-reliance.
